As stated in previous articles symbolism has a collective component
and individual meaning. It’s always important to examine the context
in which any dream symbol appears. If a stone or gem appears in
your dream it’s important to note if it’s in a natural state and
still in the Earth. Or, has it been mined and polished and now looks
like a specimen? Stones and uncut minerals represent things in potential.
If the stone has been incorporated into a piece of jewelry this
changes the significance from a purely symbolic or vibratory meaning
to something which has been altered by human intervention. Jewelry
has been fashioned by a human hand in addition to the forces of
nature and is like art , adding perceived value based on its outer
presentation. A piece of jewelry can be a gift, a reward or a treasure.
I once had a dream once where I was told I could choose a gift of
any pair of earrings from a case.
Crystals grow in accordance with mathematical law, according to
principles of what is sometimes called Sacred Geometry. The external
geometric form of a crystal is the outward, visible expression of
the mineral’s internal atomic structure. This matrix is at the heart
of any crystal and also determines other characteristics such as
hardness, fracture and cleavage and its relation to every specimen
of the same mineral. Because crystals hold a numeric frequency of
shape and form their atoms vibrate in accordance with the characteristic
and significance of that number.
Depending on the source, there are six or seven basic crystal systems
which include the familiar six-sided quartz crystal and the pyramidal
nature of fluorite crystals. Some of them have exotic names like
orthorhombic and triclinic. Several of these relate to what are
known as the five Platonic solids: cube, dodecahedron, icosahedron,
octahedron, and tetrahedron which is the nature of fluorite. Any
time shapes are a key element in symbolism this brings the meaning
of number into the equation. Of course another aspect to notice
is the color of the stone and what that adds to the meaning.
Minerals are formed in nature by one of two forces--fire or water--which
are also the two main archetypal elements. Minerals formed by fire
are called igneous and those formed by the slow action of water
are called sedimentary. A third classification is really a combination
of the two. These are called metamorphic. At a subtle level the
kind of stone says something about what’s forming in your life.
Certain stones are believed to have great power. Some have been
used for healing and others have been valued for other attributes.
Perhaps the stone which appears in your dream has been incorporated
into an amulets or talisman, suggesting even more power or meaning.
What would this mean if you could hold it in your hand in waking
consciousness?
If a stone, mineral or gem appears in your dreams always examine
your feelings. Is it something that belongs to you as a treasure,
or is it something you desire or even covet? In what period of history
or prehistory does the dream sequence occur? This can provide a
big clue to the deeper meaning of the symbol. According to the American
psychic, Edgar Cayce, a giant Quartz crystal, called the Tuoai Stone,
was the central power-generating force of ancient Atlantis.
What follows is a brief list of meanings associated with certain
stones and minerals which appears in the symbol dictionary of my
book Tarot & Dream Interpretation.
Amber means constancy while Amethyst is thought to represent clarity.
Beryl is courage, Carnelian provides warmth. Clear quartz crystal
is purity and communication. Diamonds suggest abundance while Garnet
is devotion. Emerald is thought to mean truth while Jade represents
the soul. Lapis is creativity, and soothing Malachite helps balance.
Moonstone bestows grace, Opal the gift of prophecy. Pearls carry
the deep memory of the sea and Peridot gives the gift of wisdom.
Rose quartz opens the heart and red Ruby engenders passion. Sapphire
helps with insight and Onyx is grounding and aids spiritual strength.
Topaz is faithfulness and Tourmaline is deeply calming.
